Department of Physical Education home

The Department is one of the best and most highly regarded in the nation with an outstanding academic staff, state-of-the-art modern infrastructure and a wide range of challenging study options from physical education theory to hands-on practice utilising a range of teaching styles. Courses cover diverse and interdisciplinary areas in teacher education, health/athletic training and sports management. Practical experiences under careful supervision and internships are jointly organised by the student and the programme supervisor. Graduates of the Department armed with the skills, experience and credentials usually start their rewarding career as a physical education teacher at the kindergarten through high school level, or a coach for sports teams of schools and clubs. Otherwise they assume leadership roles in a variety of occupational settings including educational, corporate, medical and communal.

Department of Leisure Sports Studies home

With awareness of the healthful benefits of recreational choices more widely accepted and documented, leisure and sports became the largest industry in the world. Leisure sport studies draw together education and scholarship that inform physical education, health and wellbeing let alone leisure sport. The Department has unique programmes of rigorous and challenging study, which are interdisciplinary in nature and combining hands-on learning and theory. It also organises dynamic internships and cooperative education placement programmes to help students move from the classroom to the work environment. As professionals trained in leisure and sports work, graduates of the Department enter the profession in recreation and leisure agencies, convention bureaus, resorts, corporate sector, public recreation agencies, voluntary and religious organisations and youth-serving agencies, or they choose to move on to postgraduate studies.

Department of Taekwondo home

One of the only two martial arts certified as full medal Olympic sports, Taekwondo is a combat sport originating in Korea and practised by over 70 million people throughout the world. The Department provides a congenial, collegial environment where students receive individual attention. They learn Taekwondo-relevant subjects in sport science,martial arts, pedagogical skills, interpersonal communication, institutional administration and the English language. Extracurricular trainings are encouraged for students to hone their technique and competitive ability in gyeorugi (sparring) and pumsae (pattern), and internships are organised to enrich their practical field experiences. Most graduates of the Department find career opportunities galore in teaching at all educational levels in every corner of the world. Others decide to open their own dojang (gym), work for a sport administration, or pursue postgraduate studies.

Department of Security and Secretarial Services home

The Department offers unique programmes combining professional services of personal security and administrative assistance that are designed to provide tailored, effective and comprehensive security and secretarial solutions to individuals, businesses and government. Its classes feature real-world skills and knowledge paired with hands-on experience to give students the training that truly readies them for their career. Most of the latest in technology and equipment are available for students’ learning experience to keep up with industry trends. In every step of the course, students get a personalised educational experience and individual attention. With the help of devoted staffs giving top-notch placement assistance, fully prepared graduates of the Department join the ranks of professionals as a secretary, administrative staff, paralegal, private detective, international courier, event manager, or security guard.

Department of Sports Medicine home

The Department prepares its students for careers in athletic training and related healthcare fields, specialising in preventing, recognising, managing and rehabilitating injuries associated with athletic participation. Courses of the Department provide students with comprehensive exposure to the scientific, medical, technical and professional aspects of sports medicine. The diversity of highly motivated staff ranging from athletic trainers, team physicians, academic/clinical staff and strength specialists to a cadre of health professionals contributes to the students’ overall clinical experience. As society becomes more health and fitness minded and demanding better quality of life, graduates of the Department as qualified athletic trainers easily find employment in high schools, colleges, professional sports programmes and other healthcare agencies, or go on to an advanced degree in allied health professional field.

Department of Practical Dance Education home

The Department sustains a commitment to teacher education through diverse programmes in dance education. They are designed to identify features of the pedagogical context in choreography and dance technique classes as the basis for teaching and learning in practical dance classes. Students also develop project management skills, gain teaching experience and undertake self-employed work. While the classes primarily focus on individual development, collaborative learning and teamwork are also encouraged to keep students in regular contact among themselves and with specialists in the field. Graduates of the Department are well prepared to go into employment or to further their studies in postgraduate courses. Career paths include a dance teacher, dance therapist, professional dancer and professional choreographer, or a professional in fitness and physical development, and arts administration.
